The son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Stevenson had lived in Wallaceburg and Chatham. He was a student at Wallaceburg  High School and Chatham Collegiate Institute.

He went overseas as a Sgt., promoted to Pilot Officer and in 1944 was Flying Officer then on loan to the RAF and was flying with one of the Lancaster bombing squadrons.   

It was reported in the WN 3/05/45 that F/0. Ian A. was awarded as mentioned in Dispatches “for gallantry” in the performance of his duty while serving in the Royal Air Force. In the numerous operations against the enemy the invariably displayed the utmost courage and devotion to duty. WN.
