Born 24/08/1906 in Harwich Twsp., Kent Co., ON. the son of William Allan and Harriet “Hattie” (nee Atkin); brother of Harriet Jean, Reginald, Glen and Douglas. Charles attended S.S. #15 Harwich Twsp, school, did his high school at the Chatham Collegiate Instutite where he excelled in sports, he was Senior Athletic Champ in 1925/26 and 1926/27. He then attended the Chatham Business College. He would go on to graduate M.D. from the University of Western Ontario, London in 1933. He completed his internship from 1933 – 35 completing a surgical internship.

Dr. Stewart married Eleanor Alice (nee McDonald), 14/06/1933 in Harwich Twsp., Kent Co., ON. and they had four children, Janet, Harriet, Bill and Allan. The family settled in Chatham in August 1935 at 206 Victoria Ave. Dr. Stewart then took specialist training in anaesthesia at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal, PQ.  He stayed in Chatham until 1942.

Dr. Stewart enlisted in the RCAMC 28/08/42 going overseas with 10th Canadian General Hospital in December 1942, serving with that unit through the Normandy campaign. While in France in July of 1944 Capt. Stewart transferred to the 1st Cdn. Mobile Neuro-surgical Unit and remained with that unit into October of 1944.

Promoted to the rank of Major in January 1945 he returned to England in July attached to 1st Cdn. General Hospital at Taplow, England where he remained until his repatriation to Canada in October of 1945. Major Stewar was discharged from the army 11/12/1945

Dr. Stewart practiced anaesthesia in Chatham unti 1952 moved to London, ON. Dr. Stewart passed away 25/11/1995.
