Stoehr, O. James “Ben”

 

Born in Moline, Illinois, USA., the son of Rolla G. Stoehr and Helen M. Stoehr; husband of Ivy Elizabeth Stoehr (nee Manderson), of 105 Gladstone Ave., Chatham, Ontario,  Canada. Ivy was a graduate of the Public General Hospital school of nursing.  Member of St. Andrews United Church in Chatham. James came to Chatham at the age of four years old. Attended Central Public School and C.C.I. Prior to his enlistment he was employed at the Canadian Leaf Tobacco Co. in Chatham.

He enlisted in 1942 October. James trained at Toronto – Manning Depot. In October of 1942 James was training in Hamilton, ON. when he and his wife spent a weekend with his parents. CDN 14/10/42 The CDN 6/04/43 reported that AC2 Stoeher, who had a weeks furlough with his wife and his parents before he returned to RCAF-Jarvis.  He also trained at Souris, Camp Borden where he won his Pilot’s Wings with the rank of Pilot Officer in December 1943.  He arrived in Chatham to spend a leave at home, 105 Gladstone Ave.  He took his general reconnaissance at Summerside PEI  for advance training. On 26/12/43 he would take on new duties.  He went overseas 27 April, 1944.

He enlisted in 1942 October. James trained at Toronto – Manning Depot. In October of 1942 James was training in Hamilton, ON. when he and his wife spent a weekend with his parents. CDN 14/10/42

AC2 Stoehr was training at Souris, Manitoba when he was granted a 48 hour leave in Chatham with his wife and his parents before leaving for Jarvis, ON. to continue training. 

The CDN 6/04/43 reported that AC2 Stoeher, who had a weeks furlough with his wife and his parents before he returned to RCAF-Jarvis.

The CDN 31/05/44 reported that F/O. Stoehr was serving overseas. The CDN 25/09/44 reported that James had been promoted to Flying Officer. 

Flying an Oxford aircraft # LW 955, collided with a Harvard. The Oxford crashed at Loggershead, Shropshire England. F/O Stoehr was killed and the pilot of the Harvard was only slightly injured.

Age: 28, DOAA – Date of Death: 27/02/1945.
