Resident Wallaceburg

The son of Wilfred Thompson of 1125 Dufferin Ave., Wallaceburg’ his mother passed away in 1937. The brother of Wilfred A ‘Mike’, RCNVR, Alonzo and Gerry, at home; Virginia is training at St. Joseph’s hospital, Rilla, a student at the Canada Business College in Chatham  Beverly and Shirley both at home. Married Irma (nee Roegiest) and they had three children, Michael, Patricia and Jerry.

Born in Wallaceburg he attended the Central public school and High school. Prior to his enlistment he was employed at the Dominion Glass Co.

Patrick enlisted in the Army shortly after the outbreak of war. He had been overseas four more that four years. He trained in Canada and in England. Served in North Africa, Sicily and Italy.

The CDN Sept. 1944 reported that Patrick had been slightly wounded while serving with the RCR, the advice indicated that the “wound is not serious”. The CDN 19/10/44 reported that he had been wounded but had no details.

Returning on the Duchess of Bedford”, expected to arrive at Halifax, NS.  9 September, 1945. Reported  being welcomed back to Chatham from overseas duty by Aldermen George Kerr KC., A. G. Goodman and Bert Joyce also by Rehabilitation Officer William Foreman and Alex Copeland for the Civil Reception Committee along with hundreds of citizens. CDN 12/09/45.
