The son of Mr. and Mrs. William Thorpe of 130 Sheldon Ave., Chatham, ON. He was educated in Chatham schools.

Previous Military Experience… None

History After Enlistment… William joined the First Kents in 1940 and transferred to the Highland Light Infantry. While overseas he transferred to the RCASC and he received a parcel from the ladies of the Church of the Later Day Saints that arrived close to his 20th birthday in June of 1942. CDN 5/08/42. Transferred to the Toronto Scottish Regiment and went overseas in May 1942. Served three years and eight months in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany.  The CDN 28/12/45(P) reported that William was arriving in New York on the 28th of Dec. 1945  aboard the Queen Elizabeth.
