Unit # 22nd – 5th Light Horse prior to the war, 195th Overseas Battalion, 32nd Bn., 78th Bn.

Reference: RG 150, Accession 1992-93/166, Box 9944-33, Item 290979, PDF:- 9944-S033. Date of Birth: 19/04/1888 at Renwick, Romney Twsp., Kent Co., ON. The son of Henry and Jennie Vickers of Renwick, ON. Thomas was educated at the Romney Public School and Leamington High School. He attended the University of Toronto in the school of Applied Science 1908 – 11. With his Diploma (Civil – Engineering) with Honours. 

He moved to North Battleford, SK. In North Battleford, SK. Single as the Provincial Engineer and Surveyor  for that district.  Present address: North Battleford, SASK.  Served with the 22nd – 5th Light Horse prior to the war. Attestation 28/04/1916 at Regina, SK., to the 195th Overseas Battalion.

Served with the 22nd – 5th Light Horse prior to the war. Attestation 28/04/1916 at Regina, SK., to the 195th in February 1916 Overseas Battalion. Medical done at Regina, Sask. “Fit” for service. Date of Service – 31/10/16 / 29/11/16 and 9/04/17. Thomas embarked at Halifax 1/11/16 and disembarked in England, 11/11/16. TOS: 32ND Bn.  At the end of November he joined the 78th Bn.  

DOW 9/04/1917 at the Battle of Vimy Ridge, age 28 years. Serving with the 78th Battalion which he joined at the front. Grave Ref:- F.27

During the Attack on Vimy Ridge, his company had advanced about 800 yards and waited behind a group of mine craters until the artillery barrage moved forward. Immediately after the advance was resumed, he was severely wounded. Through his ‘batman’, who was later KIA made an effort to bring Lieut. Vickers back to the aid post, he died after going a short distance.

Buried at Givenchy-En-Gohelle Canadian Cemetery – Pas de Calais, France. His grave marker also has “P. H. Moore, 46th Bn. 886395,  Died 3/01/17 age 19” ?
