Private Fletcher left Halifax for overseas with the 186th battalion Mar. 26, 1917 proceeding to France June 5 serving with the 18th Canadians in the field.
Aug 15, 1917, he received a gunshot wound over the eye and was buried in a shell hole; was admitted to the 20th Canadian General Hospital and after six weeks convalescence at Rouen returned to his unit.
At Passchendaele, Nov. 9, 1917, about twenty-five yards in front of Passchendaele Church, he was killed in action.
