
Clealand was born on September 12, 1917 in Dresden. He enlisted at Chatham in 1940 and joined the 43rd Parachute Bn. becoming one of the first three blacks in that unit. Shown in a CDN photo with fellow black enlistment Pte. Loyst William Kelly of Ingersol, ON at a training base near Winnipeg, Manitoba. The article and photo did not have a date.
Discharged November 1945.
