The son of Mrs. Claude D. Kent of King St. West, Chatham. P/O Kent was reported engaged to marry Marion Canton Hubbell, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Orvall Hubbell of Thamesville, ON., the marriage to take place in Sydney, NS. in November of 1939. CDN 21/10/39. P/O Kent was reported to be returning to Sydney, NS. in the CDN 3/01/40.    

William C. entered the RCAF prior to the outbreak of the war, he selected the air force as a life profession. He made remarkable progress as an instructor and a flyer in actual combat. He was a administrator in Airforce affairs with a high reputation.  

In October of 1942 Sqd. Ldr. Kent had taken a two month course in Belleville, ON. 

The CDN 13/03/43 reported that Mrs. C. D. Kent returned from Toronto after spending a weel with her son, Sqd. Ldr. William Kent and Mrs. Kent. John Kent also with the RCAF in Hmailton joined his mother in Toronto for a weekend.  

The CDN 3/06/43 reported that Sqd. Ldr. and Mrs. Kent along with their little son were arriving in Chatham from Toronto to be guests of Mrs. C. D. Kent of King St. West. , for the Kent –Jones wedding.

The CDN 7/10/44(P) reported that Sqdn. Ldr. Kent was involved in a air attack on a German submarine while part of the crew of a Sunderland flying boat. The aircraft was piloted by FO. C. N. Ulrick from Alberta, the article did not give any information on what duty was Williams duty onboard the aircraft. The “official credit” was a probable sinking.

In the official report of the engagement it said he was from Thamesville, it is the former home of his wife but William was from Chatham. As a young boy he was a carrier for the Chatham Daily News.
