Murray was born on April 12, 1922 in Chatham ON and died in London ON on April 13, 2009. He was buried in McVicar Cemetery on Darrell Line in Chatham Kent, just a few miles from his family farm on Caledonia Rd. where he lived for a time with his parents William George Mackness and Maude Smith Mackness. He attended McKeough School and then Chatham High and Vocational School. He worked at JT Wing & Co. in Chatham after coming back from the war and married Freda May Wasson in St. John NB on June 12, 1945 on his way back from the war. Some will remember his time as the part time Manager of the Chatham Boxing Club in the mid-50’s. He built the house at 86 Arnold St in the early 50’s for his young family before he relocated to St Catharines for work in 1958. He later moved to Galt in 1963 and then in 1966 to London where he was a salesman for CN Weber, travelling from London to Chatham and Windsor and Sarnia, and surrounding areas calling on hardware stores and lumber yards. He retired after 18 years enjoying 15 years of retirement. Murray and Freda had 4 children, 9 grandchildren and 3 greatgrandchildren at the time of his death.
He made several trips over and back, and was stationed one year in England with the RCNVR. Murray was discharged on December 16th, 1945.
