George was the only son of Alexander Ross and Lydia Margret Woodall.  He was born 30 August 1905 in Keppel Township, Grey County, ON, Canada.

George married Ella M. Harris in 1930 and were raising 5 children by the start of the war; Don, Doug, Marilyn, Shirley, and Leigh, with adding one more born after the war, Ellen. In his youth, he was a member of the civilian militia and at the outbreak of the war, he enlisted with the Kent Regiment in Chatham. He served in England for a year and after a transfer to the Fourth Regiment, saw action in Italy, France, Belgium and the Netherlands.

The Wallaceburg News 24/12/42 reported that Pte. Ross was serving with the First Kents in British Columbia was on a month’s leave with his family. Mrs. Ross was progressing slowly from a recent serious accident at the Wallaceburg Brass Company.

After the war he worked for Schultz Diecasting, the Wallaceburg News, the Leamington Post and then finally settled in Tilbury in 1954, where he worked for The Tilbury Times as a linotype printer until he retired. His two sons would later enlist in the Korean conflict.

He died 29 January 1985 in hospital, Chatham, ON, and is buried in Maple Leaf Cemetery, Tilbury, ON.
