Francis embarked for overseas in Apr. 1916, crossing to France in June, attached to the Machine Gun Section of the 58th battalion.
While carrying a dispatch under shell fire, he was severely wounded in the abdomen by a sniper, Sept. 21 and died Sept. 22, 1916.
