According to the 1911 Kent Census Thomas was born in 1892 in England and had come to live with the Hall  family as a labourer through the Bernardo Society in Quebec from Liverpool 19 Oct. 1908 on the ship “Dominion”. A farmer, single. Previous militia: 27th St. Clair Borders, for five years 1910 to 1912. Attestation 1/02/1916 at Brigden, ON. Age: 25 years, 8 months. Height: 5’ 5”, Girth: 37 “,Complexion: Fair, Eyes: Blue, Hair: light Brown. Attestation: 1/02/1916 to 149th O/S Batt.  

 

SPELLER THOMAS ARTHUR. (401724) 33RD. Enlistment at Chatham, 24th Kent.  20/09/1915. Next of Kin: Robert Speller of Oil Springs, ON. To the 70th Batt. Transferred from the 33rd 28/10/15  to 26/11/1915 

4/08/16 hospitalized for Otilis Media 11 days in hospital .

AWL: four days 845308 – AWL 14/07/16, 1/08/16, 24/08/16, 21/0916 / 13/10/16: his LAST PAY 20/03/17 from the 149th  O/S. CEF. “ I have never suffered from Insanity, Tuberculosis, Epilepsy of Fits” There for he was assigned for “Special Service” 13/02/17.  He had a scar in the Right Illiac, region from operation for appendicitis. Medical Board  – 13/02/1917.

In his “WILL” – he left all of his goods to Miss Hugh Campbell, R.R.#4, Dresden, ON. Hugh Campbell was listed as his guardian 17/03/17 

Thomas Speller passed away 19/10/1939. Internment unknown
