The WN 9/07/42 reported in their column “From Boys Overseas” as follows:

Somewhere in England,

Dear Sir

In reply to your letter mailed seventh of April I am very sorry it did not arrive in time for your campaign. It arrived here the twenty-seventh of May, due to the fact that I am temporarily brigaded to another unit. I sincerely hope you will be able to use my letter for some future campaign.

Myself and most of the other boys who are at this moment on active service throughout the Empire appreciate the gifts of the Red Cross. We are especially thankful for the sox, gloves, cap comforters, which always come in good use, on night guards, schemes and all cold weather service, of which there is plenty here.

I am a Canadian and proud of it and the Red Cross serves us and in the recorning we will not forget them and all our people at home. This leaves me well and in excellent spirits.

Yours sincerely,

Pte. M. Turner,

1st Bat. Essex Scottish, 2nd Div. C,A.O.S., Engla

WN 23 March, 1944 he writes the following

“Thanks the S. A. Red Shield”

Dear Sirs,

I would like to thank the suppoters of the Salvation Army Red Sheld Auxillary for socks and other necessities sent to myself and other boys over here. We appreciate very much the help given us by people at home and we over here know that just aswe are prepared to give all, so are our friends and loved ones at home, for the victory we will, and must have, if we are to live as human beings and not as slaves. I thank all of you again and say chins up and we will be to-gether again soon.

Yours Sincerely,

Pte. M. Turner,
