Private James Edward West left Halifax for overseas with the 186th Battalion March 26th, 1917, training at Bramshott Camp from April 25th, until June, when turned down for active service in France, and, July 12th, attached to the Staff, Headquarters, Canadians. He received promotion to Sergeant in September 1917, and to Staff Sergeant in November 1918.
