Prior to his enlistment he was living in The Pas, Manitoba. He was working on a farm in Winnipeg.  He was born at Sunday’s Hill, Gloucestershire, , England. For the purpose of enlisting he used Arthur McConnell of Muirkirk ON. as his next of kin. A labourer by trade and was single. At some time he had some military training  with the 24th Kent regt. of Chatham, ON.  

A British Home Child, Percy, age of eleven, left England aboard the S.S. Kensington, departing Liverpool, England 11/07/1907, arriving at Quebec on the 20th of July his destination the Bernardo Homes, Toronto, Ontario. From there it is assumed that he found his way to Muirkirk, Kent Co. ON. and his friend Arthur McConnell.

Lance Corporal Percy Arthur White served with the 24th Kent Regiment, Chatham, in 1912.

He enlisted 1/06/1916. Height: 5’ 10 ½ “, Girth: 37 1/2” , Complexion: Fair, Eyes: Brown, Hair: Black, Weight: 148 to 155 #.  He was considered as “Fit” 1/06/16 at Winnipeg, MB.  

Lance Corporal Percy Arthur White transferred from the 200th (Irish Cdn. Rangers) a Winnipeg Battalion to the 199th Irish Canadian Rangers of Montreal, and left for overseas December 10th, 1916.  Percy departed the S.S. Olympic from Halifax, age 22 years 16/12/16 and Disembarked in England 26/12/16. He transferred to the 23rd Reserve Bn. at Shorhame,  

After training at Oldham, Lancashire, England, the Battalion left England February 1st, 1917, for Ireland and visited Belfast, Cork Dublin, Amagh and Limerick; returned to Shoreham, England and proceeded to France in April 1917 to the 14th Royal Montreal Regiment. He was posted to the 14th Bn. for training. He was reported a “Stoppage of Pay” 17/11/17 to cover the cost of a small box Respirator – “Lost” through negligence.  

Lance Corporal White took part in the engagements at Hill 70 (15 -25 August, 1917) and Passchendaele (26 October – mid-November 1917) General Arthur Currie had estimated that it would cost the CEF 16,000 killed and wounded to capture Passchendaele village and ridge, the final count was 15,654) and at Arras. On April 7th, 1918, had is ankle badly crushed from a gunshot. To his Right Ankle and a fracture of the right ankle joint. It was while serving in the 14th Bn. 12/04/18. He was admitted to 7. Cdn. Casualty Clearing Station. He was treated at No. 4 Cdn. General Hospital, Basingstoke, England, admitted 22/04/18. After treatment he was discharged 26/07/18.    After treatment at No.4, he was before a Medical Board for the partial loss of function of his right due to the injury to his right leg.  As a result he was granted a furlough with subsistent extended to 31/10/18 and extended to 2/11/18 on an extended furlough. He was discharged from HMS. – MEDICALLY UNFIT for further service 7/09/18. If the GSW he came down with Influenza, running a temperature of 102/103 before he recovered. 16/07/18

He was ceased to be attached to the 2nd CCD. 11/09/18 and returned to Canada.  He left for Canada in September 1918, arriving at Quebec October 8th, 1918.

Lance Corporal Percy Arthur White received his discharge November 9th, 1918, at London, Ontario, being medically unfit for further military service; Category C3.

Fracture of the Right tibia at the ankle (X-Ray on file) 24/04/18. He suffered stiffness of the ankle and sharp pain in the ankle but was able to walk a mile.
