Stanley was born in Bournemouth, England on December 20, 1923.  Next of kin were his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John and Annie (nee Gurr) Wild.   The brother of James, Alec, sisters Molly (Birchmore), Anne (Monkhouse) The husband of Marilyn (nee Neil) the father of Janet (Gawne), David, Rich and Kathryn Robbins (Scott). 

His place of enlistment was in London, Ontario.  His address at enlistment was R.R. #1 Blenheim, Ontario.  He served in Canada, England and Europe.

Stanley passed away 4 June, 2009 at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance at the age of 86 years.

Stan’s wife writes:  “Stan enlisted in the RCAF at age 17, a month before his eighteenth birthday.  He was stationed at Brandon and Dauphin, Manitoba, Regina, Saskatchewan, Fort William, St. Thomas, Hagersville, Fingal and Jarvis, Ontario.  He graduated as a Flight Engineer.  He was a member of Squadron #408 – The Goose Squadron which was sponsored by the Town of Kingsville, Ontario.  He was based at Linton-on-Ouse, Yorkshire.  408 Squadron was one of the squadrons in Canada’s No. 6 Bomber Command.  Stan and his crew flew 23 bombing raids in Halifax bombers over Germany before the war in Europe ended in May 1945.  They then flew Lancaster bombers back to Canada from Yorkshire, England via southern England, the Azores Islands, Gander, Newfoundland and landed at Scoudouc, New Brunswick.  He had a 30 days leave and reported back to Greenwood, N.S. where they were to be sent to the Pacific.  The war ended with the dropping of the atomic bombs on Japan in August 1945.”

After the war Stan, a Senior Certified Engineering Technician OACETT was employed by the Union Gas Co.retiring in 1984.  A member of the Sprucedale United Church-Building Committee.   

Stanley passed away 4 June, 2009 at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance at the age of 86 years. CDN-Obit 5/06/09
