Enlisted in July 1940 at the age of 21 years. Transferred to the RCA 7th Medium Regt. The son of Mr. and Mrs. James and Mary Willder ( a veteran of WWI – 50th Battalion) Willder who were in charge of the Canadian Club on 29 Victoria Ave., Chatham. Two other brothers were also serving, Gnr. William enlisted 10 Sept. 1939 with the 12th Battery RCA and Gnr. Thomas Austin, A28266, 2nd LAA, RCA.  Husband of Elsie Willder, of Bolton Lancashire, England.

James enlisted early in the war. His father was a veteran of the Great War. He was wounded the day before his death while fighting in Holland.

Age 22 years, James was KIA 28/04/45 at Emden, Germany and is buried at Meppen, Germany and was transferred to the Holton Canadian War Cemetery in Holland.
