Previous Military Experience… None

History After Enlistment… Enlisted and served with the First Kents in August 1940 for some months.  He then transferred and went overseas 30 March, 1942 as reinforcement to the Essex-Scottish Regiment.

Pte. Wills was wounded on 30 May, 1944 while travelling in a station wagon with another Chatham boy in England.  Spent some months in hospital both in England and Canada. He has no memory of how he was wounded, “his mind was blank covering the time he entered it until he came to in a hospital after the robot bomb attack”.

Carl said according to what he was told by officials a robot bomb landed near or on the station wagon. He suffered a fractured skull, a broken jaw, numerous contusions and lacerations. Hi one side was paralyzed for some time, but is gradually getting back to normal. His welcome home was seventeen months to the day he left and he was home on his 27th birthday.    

Husband of Evelyn Kaye (nee Rayment) father to Cathy-Jo and Carla-Ann. They were living at her parents home on Park Ave. West, they had been married for three years. He was given  a hearty homecoming.

Charles Passed away 12 July, 1970.
