Born in Saskatchewan, the son of Roy and Alice (Stebbings) Willmore. Married to Julia (nee Cartier) (2001), the father of Susan (Klint), Mark, Tom, (Gale),  Cindy (Poole), Larry, Barry and Brad.  Ted’s brother had been overseas for over a year.  

The CDN 10/04/43 (P) reported that Pte. Willmore had arrived overseas.   

‘Ted’ Enlisted with the 1st Kent’s and transferred to a Canadian Scottish Regt. to go overseas. Landed with the Canadian forces on D-Day.

A former employee of the Chatham Daily News, Ted had been receiving a regular delivery of the paper while in England but not so once in France. He say in a letter home: “ In the Regiment that I am with the men do not receive any Canadian papers and the result is that they all read the Chatham News as soon as it arrives. The paper is eagerly awaited, as it gives a lot of news about Canada and the boys are anxious to get word from home.

By the time all the men in the company get through reading my copy of The News, you would not recognize it as it gets torn pretty badly passing through many hands.”

“Ted’ served as a Signaller, Group – C for the last 24 months of his service. After the war Ted joined the Canadian Army reserve from 1/04/1947 until 20/01/1950. He was rated as a WO2 when he was discharged from the Reserves.

In joined the Chatham Police Service in 1948 and retired as a Inspector in 1985. In 24 May,1949 Ted married Julia Margreat (Cartier) (2001). He was the father of Susan, Mark, Tom, Cindy, Larry, Barry and Brad.

He was active in many community organizations Knights of Columbus, Royal Canadian Legion, Seniors Centre and the Goodfellows. Ted passed away 26 October, 2010 and is interned in the Mausoleum at Maple Leaf Cemetery, Chatham, ON.
