The son of Hugh Wilson of Tilbury. RG 150, Accession 1992-93/166. Box: 10433-20, Item: 316331, PDF: – B10433-SO20.  Date of Berth: 2/04/1883 at Hamilton, ON. Next of Kin: Alvin Wilson, Next of Kin (Wife). A cook. 

Alvin served in the United States- in the National Guard for three years. Returned to Canada.

Attestation: 11/08/15 at London, On.

Apparent age: 32 yrs. 3 mths., Height: 5’ 6 ½”, Weight: 135#. Complexion: Ruddy, Eyes: Brown, Hair: Auburn. Medical “Fit” 11/08/15 to the 33rd Overseas Batt.  Enlisted in the 33rd Infantry Batt. 12/08/1915 to March 1916. Unit sailed 13 Mar, 1916.

Reported wounded in action with the 4th CMR during the battle for Regina Trench. Serving with the 4th Cdn. Mounted Regt. 26/10/16, Mil. Lewisham 15/10/16. Seriously injured taken to General Hospital – Liverpool 23/11/17 to 20/08/17. Required to deal with an elbow and Left knee, very swollen and sore to the touch, due to a GSW to the right arm – Paralysis.

Tilbury Soldier Returns

Pte. Alvin Wilson.

“Returned from the front last night, after being wounded in the arm in France a year ago, and since has been on active service. His wife has been a resident of Tilbury for the past year. Factory whistles announced his arrival, after which he was entertained by a committee of citizens.”

He served four months in France 

3/08/17 – Military Hospital, 15/03/17 Military Hospital – Warlingham: VDG. 24/11/17 No. 5 Canadian General Hospital.  

Invalided to Canada sailing from Liverpool aboard HMS Bracemer Castle 16/12/17. “Discharged Medically Unfit”. Proceeding on Discharge. Date of Discharge 10/03/18 at Guelph Medically Unfit due to wounds.

Death of Alvin Wilson.

“Hugh Wilson, Canal Street, [Tilbury], has received word that his son, Alvin, aged 45, died in the University Hospital, Edmonton, Alberta, following an extended illness. The deceased, who was well known here, enlisted in the 33rd Battalion and served overseas. After his discharge he worked as a press feeder on the Windsor Record. During the past few years he has wandered about the globe. Surviving  besides his father are three brothers John and Oscar of Detroit and James of Windsor, ON. and three sisters, Mrs James Reaume, Mrs. Fred Steward of Detroit and Mrs. Charles Burkhart of Riverside. The funeral was held in Edmonton. “

The Memorial Cross was sent to Mrs. Emily Wilson (Wife – mentally deficient) so forwarded to his brother ‘ in trust’ to his Brother: Mr. John E. Wilson, 2621 Springwells Ave., Detroit, Mich, USA.
