Born and educated in Erieau, ON. Prior to enlistment in the fall of 1942 Edward was employed in the fishing industry in Erieau.

Edward spent his Christmas holiday with his family in Erieau in December, 1942. CDN 31/12/4

While fighting with the British Eighth Army received his fourth wound in a little over five months in combat it was reported in the first time in September of 1944 WIA in Italy.  This time he was struck in the jaw by shrapnel fragment along with a slight wound to the thigh.  On a happier note it was reported in the CDN 22/08/44 that Eddie along with L/Cpl. Gus Foulis were lucky enough to be in Rome in time to be in the audience with the Pope.   The CDN 26/09/44 reported that he was in a convalescent camp to recover from his fourth wound.  The CDN 12/10/44(P) reported that Edward had been WIA. Word of his injury was received by his brother Bertren of Erieau.  Then in the CDN 23/01/45. This time he was struck in the jaw by shrapnel fragment along with a slight wound to the thigh. The CDN 26/09/44 reported that he was in a convalescent camp to recover from his fourth wound.   CDN 23/01/4  Shortly after reaching the front he was injured when entering a booby-trapped house, which exploded, and he spent several weeks in hospital with head wounds. The cause of the other two wounds was not disclosed.

On a happier note it was reported in the CDN 22/08/44 that Eddie along with L/Cpl. Gus Foulis were lucky enough to be in Rome in time to be in the audience with the Pope.
