Resident Tilbury

Reference: RG 150, Accession 1992-93/166, Box 1920 – 16 Date of Birth 23/10/1898 at London, England. Son of Edward Thomas (400644) and Sarah Connor, brother of Alfred Charles (401018)of Tilbury, ON. A single labourer living in Tilbury.

‘Ted’ grew up in Tilbury and when war broke out in 1914 he joined the Tilbury Platoon of the 186th Bn. he would eventually serve overseas. The husband of Annie (nee Edwards) they had three children a daughter Mrs. Russell Card of Warren, Michigan and a son Edward. He passed away Monday, 31/10/1966. Interment was in Michigan.

Attestation: 21/11/1916 at Chatham, ON. to ‘D’ Coy.186th Bn. Found on Nominal Roll of 186th Bn. 28/03/1917.

“ Word was received on Tuesday by Ed Connor, that his son Ted has been wounded in the neck. He enlisted in the 186th Battalion about two years ago and has been in the trenches several months. There is also another son Alfie, serving in France, and Mr. Connor was also in France until a few months ago.

Tilbury Times 25/05/1944 “War Veteran is Honoured in Death” Born in England, immigrated to Tilbury and lived there for over thirty five years on Fort Street. Served in the Signal Corp in India and the South Africa War was well as the Great War. Had three children Edward ‘Ted’, Kathleen (Gregoire) and Nelle (Phipps) by his first wife Sarah who passed away. Was married to Elizabeth (nee Hewitt). A Charter member of the Tilbury Legion he was afforded a Military funeral and parade  and burial at Maple Leaf cemetery, Tilbury.

Edward. He passed away Monday, 31/10/1966. Interment was in Michigan.
